Faisalabad Jamaat-e-Islami Political Committee President Mian Tahir Ayub has strongly condemned the government’s decision not to reduce the prices of petroleum products and increase the petroleum levy from Rs 70 per liter to Rs 78, saying that the Prime Minister’s decision to spend the benefit of the reduction in petroleum products on a province instead of passing on the benefits to the people is extremely regrettable. Spending on the provinces is the responsibility of the government, not the people. The people are already paying dozens of types of taxes on this account. This is the worst example of government dishonesty in the world. If there was any hope of providing relief to the people crushed by the inflation, the government has dashed the hopes of the people. The ruling party should pay the expenses of the provinces by reducing the salaries of members of the assembly, ministers and advisors and the petrol of the vehicles they use, and not put the burden of all their luxuries on the people. He said that despite the lowest oil prices in the world market, The Shahbaz government is not allowing the people to benefit fully. It has deprived the people of their rights by creating the pretense of provinces. Increasing the levy tax from Rs 60 to Rs 78 instead of providing relief is a complete injustice to the people. He demanded that the Prime Minister ensure that the government’s austerity in government expenditure is implemented in accordance with its spirit. The federal cabinet should be kept small, the lavish protocols and privileges of ministers should be abolished, the expenses of the bureaucracy holding the highest positions in various government institutions should be limited and the facilities provided to them free of charge such as electricity, gas, petrol, accommodation and food, etc. should be significantly reduced.Increasing the levy tax from Rs 60 to Rs 78 instead of relief is a complete injustice to the people.
