Standing Committee on Health has approved a bill to conduct a thalassemia test

The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Health has approved a bill to conduct a thalassemia test with the consent of the bride and groom before marriage. The members raised the issue of alleged corruption in PIMS on the health facility card. Then the chairman of the committee, Dr. Mahesh Kumar, directed an investigation.

The private member’s bill to conduct a thalassemia test for the bride and groom before marriage was discussed in the meeting of the standing committee. Committee member Sharmila Farooqui said that a clause has been included to conduct the test with consent. Its aim is to reduce the number of thalassemia patients. Ijaz Jakhrani said that the bill has its own importance. There should be no obstacles. After the discussion, the committee passed the bill with a majority vote.

The committee members expressed their anger over the non-participation of the Nursing Council officials in the meeting and indicated to inform the speaker in writing. Objections were also raised about the degree and appointment of the president of the Nursing Council. The chairman of the committee directed that an investigation be conducted and the details be informed to the committee in the next meeting. The committee was told that there were reports of corruption in PIMS on the health card, due to which the program was stopped. CEO Sehat Sahulat Card Arshad Khan said that the federal government is now going to make the program permanent. There is also consideration of providing free treatment only to the poor and deserving people. The final decision will be made in fifteen days.
