Shafqat Ali has been appointed as the country’s first Pakistani-origin federal minister

A historic moment has come for the Pakistani-origin community in Canadian politics, where MP Shafqat Ali has been appointed as the country’s first Pakistani-origin federal minister. Prime Minister Mark Carney has appointed him to his cabinet as the head of the Treasury Board, which is considered a very important position in terms of overseeing the government’s fiscal policies and spending. Shafqat Ali was formally sworn in in Ottawa, where Governor General Mary Smolin administered the oath to him. The occasion has become a shining example of diversity, inclusion and minority representation not only for the Pakistani community but also for Canadian society. Shafqat Ali hails from Multan, Pakistan and was elected to the Liberal Party’s second term as MP for the city of Brampton. He has established himself as an effective and trusted leader in Canada through his hard work, integrity and commitment to the community. In his initial response, Shafqat Ali said that this is not only his success but the entire Pakistani-origin community’s success, and that he will work through his position to make Canada a more effective, transparent and accountable country. Pakistanis living in Canada have expressed happiness over this decision, saying that Shafqat Ali’s appointment is a positive message to the youth that they too can reach the highest positions through hard work, dedication, and following principles.
