President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a key meeting at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Thursday to review the prevailing regional security situation following heightened tensions with India after the Pahalgam incident.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar and Law Minister Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar were also present during the meeting. According to the official statement, the leaders exchanged views on India’s aggressive posture and provocative statements, expressing deep concern over their potential impact on regional peace and stability.
The statement underscored that Pakistan would never compromise on its sovereignty and territorial integrity and would respond decisively to any form of aggression. It added that the nation stands united behind its armed forces, which are fully capable of delivering a robust response to any threat.
The meeting also reviewed Pakistan’s potential response to Indian hostilities and condemned the baseless allegations levelled by Indian leadership regarding the Pahalgam attack without any investigation. The leaders called on the international community to take notice of India’s long-standing involvement in funding, training, and facilitating militants for attacks in Pakistan.
President Zardari appreciated the government’s responsible handling of the situation and reaffirmed that Pakistan will take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and national interests.
The leaders further emphasised the urgent need for implementing UN Security Council resolutions on the right to self-determination for the people of Kashmir.
