PPP’s BLA-style resolution on Karachi condemnable: MQM leader Zahid Malik questions PPP’s double standards on creation of New Administrative Units

Islamabad: February 22, 2026

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) central leader Zahid Malik condemned the use of BLA-style language by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in a resolution opposing the creation of Karachi province.

“The language does not reflect the thinking of a constitutional and democratic party. It (language) is the language of BLA,” Malik said in a statement.

He said the creation of new provinces would not mean the division of Sindh, rather an administrative effort to free the public from what he described as “mafia-style plunder” and to bring about good governance.

He questioned the PPP as to why it had supported and secured the passage of a resolution in the Punjab Assembly in 2012 in favour of creating new provinces in Punjab.

“If new provinces on administrative grounds in Punjab are acceptable, how does the creation of new provinces in Sindh amount to dividing Sindh or separating Karachi from Sindh?” he asked.

He termed the PPP’s stance as reflective of provincialism and linguistic thinking, and an approach inconsistent with the Constitution of Pakistan.

Malik said that the PPP’s own resolution acknowledged that Karachi’s administrative status had evolved over time, but said this had never implied separating the city from Sindh.

He further said that the President Zardari had once won public support with the slogan “Pakistan Khappay” (Long live Pakistan), but alleged that vested interests around him had turned it into “Corruption Khappay.”

After 17 years of continuous rule, he said, the PPP had failed to bring improvement to Karachi and now sought to maintain what he described as monarchical control over Karachi and Sindh, alleging that the party had its eyes on Karachi’s resources.
