Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) met today

Islamabad, May 30, 2025: The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) met today in the Committee Room of the Ministry of IPC under the chairmanship of Mr. Muhammad Sana Ullah Khan Masti Khel, MNA. The Committee deliberated on matters related to infrastructure, water shortages in the Muzaffargarh and Rung Pur canals, provision of natural gas, and other related issues.

  1. The General Manager of the National Highway Authority (NHA) and the Special Secretary for Communications and Works, Punjab, briefed the Committee on the construction, repair, and rehabilitation of various roads in District Muzaffargarh. The Committee also reviewed the connectivity and approach roads linking Alipur, Muzaffargarh, and Taranda Muhammad Panah, including the MM Road. Expressing serious concern over the deteriorated condition of these roads—which has reportedly led to over 2,300 fatalities in road accidents over the past four years—the Committee directed the Chairman, NHA, to coordinate with the Government of Punjab for the allocation of funds for the repair and maintenance of these roads under their jurisdiction. The Committee also recommended considering the upgradation of these roads to expressway status.
  2. The Committee discussed at length the issue of insufficient water supply to the Muzaffargarh and Rung Pur canals. Following detailed deliberations, the Committee decided to constitute a Sub-Committee under the convenorship of Mr. Jamshed Ahmed, with Sheikh Aftab Ahmed and Haji Rasool Bux Chandio as members.
  3. The Committee also raised concerns regarding the ongoing issues faced by the residents of NA-91 regarding the provision of natural gas. It directed the General Manager of SNGPL to resolve the matter on a priority basis and to establish a facilitation center in Darya Khan town to better serve the local population.
  4. Furthermore, the Committee observed that despite the laying of gas infrastructure in various districts of Punjab—at significant cost to the national exchequer—the imposition of a ban on new gas connections is causing difficulties for residents. The Committee strongly recommended lifting the ban to facilitate the issuance of new connections.
  5. The meeting was attended by MNAs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Nasar, Haji Rasool Bux Chandio, Syeda Shehla Raza, Mr. Muhammad Miqdad Ali Khan, and Mr. Jamshed Ahmed. Also in attendance were the Joint Secretary IPC, representatives from the NHA, SNGPL, the Government of Punjab, and other officers and officials of the Ministry.
