Dubai: A Shining Example of Peace, Tolerance, and Humanity

By Engineer Iftikhar Chaudhry
There are certain regions on the world map that are recognized not merely for their development, towering skyscrapers, or economic strength, but for their governance, human values, and spirit of tolerance. Dubai is undoubtedly one of those few cities that, in a remarkably short span of time, has not only set new benchmarks of progress but has also created a society where people of different religions, nationalities, and cultures live together like one family.
In recent days, a statement by the ruler of Dubai regarding expatriates has emerged, which is truly encouraging and deeply touching. It clearly reflects the message that providing respect, security, and equal opportunities to every individual living here is the state’s top priority. This very mindset has made Dubai an attractive destination for people from all over the world.
I myself have been residing in Dubai for the past three months and, after my final visa extension, I now intend to return to my homeland. However, the memories, experiences, and emotions I am taking back with me are no less than a treasure. I spent twenty-five years of my life in Saudi Arabia and had the opportunity to visit many countries, but the peace, comfort, love, and mutual respect I experienced in Dubai are rarely found elsewhere.
The greatest strength of Dubai is that people are valued as human beings, not judged by their religion, color, or nationality. Here, alongside mosques, you will also find churches, temples, and gurdwaras. People live according to their beliefs while respecting the sentiments of others. This is the kind of social harmony the world desperately needs today.
Dubai’s leadership has not only focused on infrastructure but has also actively promoted human values. They have created an environment where the rule of law prevails, justice is swift and transparent, and every individual is given the opportunity to grow according to their abilities. This is why people from around the globe come here not only for employment but also for a better quality of life.
During my stay, I met many Pakistanis, and it was heartening to see that most of them are satisfied with their lives in Dubai. They appreciate the system, facilities, and peaceful environment. The Pakistani community here is highly active and plays a significant role in various sectors. Whether it is construction, business, education, or services, Pakistanis have made their mark through hard work and integrity.
However, some Pakistanis also pointed out certain challenges, the most significant being the rising cost of housing. Although the number of buildings in Dubai has increased, rents have also risen considerably, posing a challenge for the middle class. Similarly, medical facilities are quite expensive, and for visitors in particular, healthcare can become a serious concern.
It is worth considering that if proper insurance policies were introduced to facilitate medical treatment for visitors, it would provide significant relief. This would not only boost tourists’ confidence but also further enhance Dubai’s global reputation.
If we compare Dubai with Saudi Arabia, both have their own unique strengths. Saudi Arabia holds a special spiritual status due to Makkah and Madinah, making it deeply revered by Muslims around the world. The atmosphere there is filled with spirituality, and every Muslim carries a special love for that land.
However, when it comes to lifestyle, facilities, freedom, and modernity, Dubai clearly stands out. Life here is fast-paced, organized, and convenient. Everything operates within a structured system, making life easier for residents.
Dubai has proven that with sincere leadership, a clear vision, and a focus on public welfare, even a desert can be transformed into one of the world’s finest cities. The rulers here have not only taken care of their citizens but have also extended the same respect and facilities to expatriates—something that defines a truly civilized society.
It would not be wrong to say that Pakistanis, in particular, hold great admiration for Dubai’s leadership. This is not just because of employment opportunities, but because of the respect and security they enjoy here. Feeling safe is one of the most valuable experiences for any human being.
As Pakistanis, we must also reflect on why we have not been able to create a similar environment in our own country. We have resources, talent, and manpower, but we lack the vision and leadership needed to steer the country in the right direction.
Dubai’s model is an example for us. We must learn how a small region can become a global hub of economy, tourism, and development. We need to promote the rule of law, ensure justice, and uphold human values in our own country.
In conclusion, Dubai is not just a city—it is a mindset, a vision, and a dream. It is a place where people of different colors, races, and religions live together and prove that humanity is the greatest truth of all.
When I leave, I will not just take memories with me, but also a lesson—that with sincere intentions, committed leadership, and collective effort, even the impossible can be made possible.
And it is important to convey this message to Dubai’s leadership that the Pakistani nation, in particular, deeply appreciates your efforts. You have not only provided us with employment but also given us respect, security, and a better life—and this is something we will never forget.
Indeed, Dubai is truly Dubai.
