Severe tremors were felt in various parts of the country, including the federal capital Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir, due to which citizens came out of their homes and offices in fear, reciting the Kalima Tayyaba.
The earthquake was also felt in many cities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Dir, Swat, Swabi, Mardan, Nowshera, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Dera Ismail Khan, Haripur and Taxila. The ground also shook in and around the capital of Punjab, Lahore, while tremors were also reported in Gilgit, Ghizer, Chitral and Astore.
According to the Seismological Center, the magnitude of the earthquake was recorded at 5.9 on the Richter scale, while its depth was 94 km. The epicenter of the earthquake was near the border of Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
No loss of life or property has been reported so far, however, the public has been advised to be cautious in view of aftershocks.
