Tehran and Islamabad have stressed the need for joint measures against terrorism after the killing of eight Pakistani workers in Sistan and Baluchistan. On the other hand, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, expressing deep sorrow and regret over the incident, has demanded that the Iranian government immediately arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
The prime minister said that Pakistan and other countries in the region must adopt a common strategy against terrorism so that such incidents can be permanently prevented.
The prime minister directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately contact the families of the deceased and the Pakistani embassy in Iran to take all possible steps to repatriate the bodies.
Earlier, the Foreign Office of Pakistan had said in a statement that the government is in constant contact with Iranian authorities and the details of the incident in Mehristan are being ascertained. Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Khan said that an official position will be taken after the facts come to light.
