Dr. Safdar Ali Abbasi, President PPPW; Ms. Naheed Khan, Political Assistant to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto; Fayyaz Ali Khan, SVP; Adv. Amjad Ali Baloch, SVP; Kunwar Zahid, Secretary General; Rai Qaiser, DSG; Waheed Golra; Malik Mazhar; Naveed Sadiq; Rana Usman, along with the senior leadership of PPPW, take note of the recently announced two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States. While this development is a welcome step toward de-escalation, it should be seen as an initial measure rather than a comprehensive resolution, and further efforts will be required to ensure lasting peace and stability.
PPPW acknowledges Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement in facilitating dialogue. At the same time, it is important that such efforts are accompanied by transparency and clarity, so that public confidence is strengthened and meaningful progress can be sustained. Durable peace is best achieved when concerns of justice and fairness are addressed alongside diplomacy.
The loss of innocent civilian lives, including that of children, in recent hostilities is deeply tragic and profoundly concerning. Such incidents underscore the urgent need for restraint and adherence to international humanitarian principles. PPPW strongly urges that all such occurrences be thoroughly examined and that accountability mechanisms under international law be upheld.
The situation has broader regional implications, contributing to uncertainty and concern across the wider Middle East, including countries such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. These developments highlight the importance of timely, balanced, and constructive international engagement to prevent further escalation.
PPPW also emphasizes that all factors contributing to regional tensions, including the role of Israel, should be carefully considered within any meaningful dialogue process. A sustainable path forward requires a comprehensive and inclusive approach that addresses underlying causes rather than focusing solely on immediate symptoms.
While dialogue between Iran and the United States remains essential, PPPW believes that a broader consultative framework involving key global stakeholders would strengthen the credibility and effectiveness of any peace initiative. Pakistan can play a constructive role by encouraging inclusive engagement, including with major international partners such as China and Russia, to help ensure that outcomes are balanced and widely supported.
PPPW further encourages the Government of Pakistan to approach this moment with clarity of purpose and confidence. Diplomatic commitments should be pursued with consistency and mutual respect, reflecting Pakistan’s sovereignty and its commitment to regional peace and stability.
This is an important moment for the region. Pakistan has the opportunity to contribute positively as a responsible and principled state, supporting efforts aimed at reducing tensions and promoting long-term peace.
PPPW reiterates its position that lasting peace is most sustainable when it is accompanied by justice, mutual respect, and adherence to international law. We call upon all nations to act responsibly, avoid double standards, and work collectively toward transforming this ceasefire into a durable, just, and inclusive peace.
