Title: The Same Old Scenario: Power Politics and the Silence of the Oppressed
By: Javed Rehman Turabi
Once again, the world witnesses that same old scenario where the powerful enjoy
every privilege while the voice of the oppressed is silenced. Recently, U.S.
President Donald Trump declared that Hamas must accept his proposed peace
plan within three to four days, otherwise they would face “a very tragic end.” This
open threat has deepened anxiety across the region, reaffirming that the world
stands today at a grave political and moral crossroads — where force and politics
take precedence over justice and humanity.
Trump’s statements and policies once again reveal that major powers interpret
peace solely through the lens of their strategic and geopolitical interests. His call to
“eliminate Hamas” exposes a deeply inhumane approach that disregards the
Palestinian struggle and reduces an entire people to pawns in a global game of
power.
Hamas, however, is not merely an armed group; it is a political and social
movement supported by a significant portion of the Palestinian population. To
demand that it abandon its political identity and representative role under external
pressure is to deny the democratic will of an entire people. Such coercion
contradicts both international law and the principles of justice and dignity that the
United States itself claims to uphold.Trump’s policy grants Israel full freedom to continue its military aggression under
the guise of “defense,” while turning a blind eye to the bombardment,
displacement, starvation, and suffering inflicted upon civilians in Gaza. In this
imbalance lies the continuation of an age-old mindset that has kept the Middle East
engulfed in blood and fire.
If President Trump truly sought peace — or the Nobel Prize he openly desires —
he would engage all parties, including Hamas, in transparent negotiations rather
than issuing ultimatums and threats. Genuine peace cannot be achieved by
excluding the very people whose rights and futures are at stake.Equally troubling is the deafening silence of Muslim rulers, whose diplomatic inertia
borders on moral complicity. Their rhetorical condemnations fall short of
meaningful action, and this failure only strengthens the oppressors. Pakistan, as a
nuclear power and a key Muslim nation, carries a special responsibility to take a
firm diplomatic stance — to unite Muslim countries, to advocate for Palestinian
rights, and to challenge the double standards of global politics.
Trump’s ultimatum and Israel’s unchecked impunity are not only an injustice to the
Palestinian people but a blow to world peace itself. History will not absolve the
silence of Muslim leaders; it will record it as a betrayal of humanity. True leadership
today demands moral courage — to stand for justice, to act, and to ensure that the
cries of the oppressed are no longer drowned by the noise of political convenience.
